Retired Chapter-Camera Obscura

The Santa Monica Sewing Rebellion at Camera Obscura Art Lab is hosted by Faux Frau Andrea (August, October, December), and Kim (September and November).  This Rebellion focuses on basic sewing skills and thematic projects developed by Frau Fiber.

8 attendees – 4 are regular/past participants, 4 new

Work
  • Altering clothing purchased from thrift store
  • Completion no boarder backpack
  • Completion tote bag
  • Crafter making bead work
  • New participant sewing strips of fabric to create a textile and bag
  • Repurposing garments to create “Ugly Christmas Sweater”
  • Altering t-shirt
  • New participants mother and son making a panda bear pillow for fathers birthday
Everyone helpful and supportive of each other, offering advice, encouragement, and admiring each others progress and outcome.

Saturday Sept 14 Production report from Faux Frau Kim

There were 11 participants.
4-5 had participated in the past, 3 were completely new to sewing, 1 had taken a five week course and wanted to learn more, 1 person brought their new sewing machine to learn, and another was knitting and wanted to be around others as they worked.
Work produced-
  • Altering garments
  • Making repairs
  • Re-purposing a vest into a bag
  • Practice sewing strips of fabric then creating a bag
  • Cutting the Boarder Back Pack from a pattern.
  • Cutting personal t-shirts to create a quilt
  • Knitting
Everyone was helpful and co-operating with each other, there was a very diverse community of people. It was an uplifting experience for all when we live in a time where there is so much devision. People exchanged contact information with each other and many are excited to attend in the future.

A few participates knew about the Syrian caftan/coat, I have printed the tech pack and watched the tutorial.
